CIPS president urges members to ‘do one good turn, and do one in return’

CIPS president urges members to ‘do one good turn, and do one in return’

CIPS president Craig Lardner is urging buyers to ‘do one good thing and do one in return’ during his year-long tenure, which begins today.

The Australian, an experienced professional who has held senior procurement roles at organisations including the BOC Group and George Weston Foods - part of the ABF group, has selected this concept as his annual theme in line with CIPS’ strategic objectives supporting the responsibilities under the royal charter of ‘serving the public good’.

“What could a 100,000-strong community do that would stand out like a beacon for 12 months?” he told SM. “Everyone does one good thing. And if one good thing is done for you then you do something in return.”

The principle is to do something for somebody else that will benefit the profession. An important aspect is the initial good deed should be for someone in another country. And once you have received a good turn you should help someone domestically.

“This is the piece I like most of all,” he said. “CIPS is a global organisation, not just international and there is a big difference. International means you are in lots of places. Global means you operate as one entity, regardless of where you are in the world.”
